Who We Are

The New England Association of Fire Marshals (NEAFM) was organized in 1960. The Association represents the six New England States, Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont. The Association currently has a membership of over 200 active and associate members. The NEAFM is a Chapter of the International Association of Fire Marshals and was chartered as Chapter number two. The Association holds one meeting a year to conduct its business which includes election of officers, bylaw changes and affirm the business of the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors meet four times a year to monitor the business of the Association and to pay the bills. The Educational Committee reports to the Board for approval of seminar and annual educational conference and meeting locations and dates.

Professional Development

NEAFM currently sponsors a one day educational seminar in the spring each year in New England. These seminars are held to bring timely educational topics to fire prevention professionals throughout the New England States. These one day seminars are open to members as well as nonmembers to help promote better enforcement/prevention and understanding through education. The Association also holds an annual two day conference and annual meeting in the fall of each year.

Objectives and Purpose

Although the following are listed under objectives and Purpose, it truly is the mission statement for the association. This association is the regional link between all the fire service professionals throughout the New England States and other fire service organizations throughout the country. These objectives and purpose are not only carried out on a face to face basis but also through the use of the internet and emails. As the technology changes it will make it easier to communicate with all our members as well as other fire service professionals.
• Establish more effective communication with fire service professionals.
• Proactively represent our membership in federal, state and local legislation, regulations and codes.
• Support membership needs through education.
• Promote Fire and Life Safety Education.

Meetings

NEAFM holds one formal meeting each year during the annual two day conference. The Board of Directors usually convenes four times a year.
